Configuration
Server Defaults and configuration
There are certain defaults for the server.
Property | Value |
---|---|
port | 27017 |
data directory | c:\data\db |
These defaults can be overridden by passing values to the mongod program.
For instance, we can start the server on a different port.
$ mongod --port 15675
Configuration can be specified in a yaml
file and used when starting the server.
Configuration options are listed in the docs.
Seeking help for the server component (mongod)
One can seek help and understand more about the server and its configurable options, responsibilities by looking at the help.

Client Defaults and configuration
Also by default the client attempts to connect to the localhost
instance of mongodb running at port 27017
.
To connect to alternate server, you pass in arguments to the shell.
Complete configuration details can be found at the manual and reference page
Seeking help for the client/shell component (mongo)
Similar to the server, help can be obtained for the client as well.

option.
$ mongod --dbpath c:\mongodb\data
$ mongod --dbpath "d:\mongo data\data"
